Southlake Sports – Dragon Tales: Meet Ryan Lindberg
September 12th, 2014 | by Michelle
To kick off the school year, we’re profile some notable Carroll Dragon athletes. We hope you enjoy meeting wrestler Ryan Lindberg:
Imagine one light illuminating the mat. Both wrestlers begin pushing and grabbing each other. All eyes are on them. After six minutes of grueling competition, there is an exhausted winner. This type of match, although intense, is Carroll High senior wrestler Ryan Lindberg’s favorite.
“I get nervous before 90 percent of my matches. Then I have to just think to myself, get in the zone and go for it,” Ryan said.
Now imagine working a part-time job, going to school and training all in the same day. This busy schedule is just another normal day for Ryan. This dedication and maturity is what earned his designation of team captain. He also knows that giving it your all is the only way to succeed in anything, especially sports.
“It’s just you versus the other person. You have to be mentally tough, physically strong and, all around, the better athlete to come out on top,” Ryan said.
With two other wrestlers in the family, Ryan looks to his brothers for inspiration. His oldest brother, Cody, wrestles at Wayland Baptist University. “They’re pretty good, and it’s always a big deal for our family to watch the matches together. We like to mess around,” he said.
Last year at state duals, Ryan changed the momentum of the tournament by defeating an opponent in the last few seconds of the match. With the team running off consecutive loses, this win was the inspiration they needed. “I went all out the last 30 seconds. I was dying, but it was worth it.”
